Patient Education Platform

Also known as: Patient Education Software, Patient Engagement Education Platform

A content and delivery system used by healthcare organizations to provide approved health information before, during, or after care.

A patient education platform may contain reviewed articles, videos, instructions, or other educational material, but the library is only one part of the product. The delivery system determines how staff find the material, how it reaches the patient, whether language and format preferences are respected, and whether the record shows what was assigned or received.

The category includes content libraries, EHR-connected delivery tools, bedside education, discharge support, and longer engagement programs. A health system should name the job it needs before comparing vendors because a large content library and a strong delivery workflow are not the same capability.

Evaluation normally covers content governance, accessibility, languages, clinical workflow, EHR integration, delivery channels, privacy, measurement, maintenance workload, implementation, and total cost. AI-generated or rewritten patient information should be evaluated as a separate function with its own source and review controls.
