AI Model Inventory

Also known as: Algorithm Inventory, Model Registry

A maintained internal record of every algorithmic or AI-based tool in use at an organization, including what each does, where it is deployed, who owns it, and how it is monitored.

An AI model inventory is the foundational artifact of healthcare AI governance. Before an organization can govern its algorithms it has to know what it has, which is harder than it sounds: models arrive embedded inside purchased systems, inside medical devices, and inside EHR modules, not only as standalone purchases.

A working inventory typically records the tool, its clinical purpose, the population it was validated on, its deployment sites, its accountable owner, its monitoring plan, and its review date.

The inventory is where many vendors first encounter a requirement they did not expect. A health system building one will come back and ask for validation population details, update cadence, and monitoring support for products bought years earlier.

Being able to answer that quickly is a retention advantage. Being unable to answer it has ended renewals.
