Post-Deployment Monitoring

Also known as: Post-Market Surveillance, Ongoing Performance Monitoring

Structured, continuing measurement of how a deployed clinical tool actually performs in the organization using it, as distinct from how it performed during evaluation.

Post-deployment monitoring answers a narrow and important question: is this tool still doing what we bought it to do, in our organization, on our patients, right now.

A monitoring plan normally names the metrics, the measurement cadence, the thresholds that trigger review, the person accountable, and the action taken when a threshold is crossed, including how the tool is withdrawn if necessary.

The absence of a monitoring plan is one of the more common reasons a governance committee sends a proposal back rather than rejecting it. It is a fixable gap, and fixing it before submission saves a cycle.

Monitoring is also a real cost line that belongs in total cost of ownership and is frequently omitted from it.
